The Turkish foreign minister said today that his Greek counterpart denied accepting NATO’s proposal for an unconditional meeting on tensions in the eastern Mediterranean.
“It is worth mentioning that Greece lied to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Athens initially agreed, then denied this.
The fact is that Greece is lying and not the Secretary General. ” – said Mevlut Cavusoglu at a press conference in the capital Ankara.
On Thursday, NATO chief Stoltenberg announced that Turkey and Greece had agreed to enter NATO technical talks to reduce the risk of dangerous incidents and collisions in the eastern Mediterranean.
“Greece has once again shown that it is not in favor of dialogue.” – added Cavusoglu.
He also criticized France for using Greece against Turkey and called on France to end its “hysterical acts”.
Greece and Turkey, two NATO members, have been embroiled in strained relations for weeks after Ankara launched a search for hydrocarbons in the eastern Mediterranean.
